Health Reassurance
The project aim is to prove the use of the technology in a health care context. Hospitals, GPs and Care Homes are participating in the pilot. This project has the potential to improve health care for patients by improving communications between service providers and increasing patient accessibility. Further potential opportunities for remote health consultations, 24 x 7 access etc. could be realised once the quality and appropriateness of the service is proven.
YAP
The Yorkshire Digital Authentication Project (YAP) will effectively add a trust and security layer to complement the Digital Region broadband roll-out.
YAP will provide opportunities for SMEs (initially within South Yorkshire) to conduct business securely online. These opportunities will also be reflected in benefits to the public and third sector also. YAP will offer a range of support tailored to individual SMEs needs ranging from basic advice, on digital security and online business, through to providing SMEs with tools to enable them to guarantee that messages are received by the right person, that the sender is who they say they are, and that they are authorised to take such actions.
Furthermore, the security levels of the certification processes, being proposed by YAP, will allow electronic messages so-transmitted to be legally admissible in a court of law, removing the need for ‘wet signatures’. The support being offered to SMEs will place them on a level footing with large companies, enabling them to access wider markets and join the supply chain with large companies whilst becoming more efficient.
FUPOL
FUPOL (Future Policy Modelling) is a project that innovates the policy design and implementation lifecycle by exploiting multi-channel social computing, policy topic sensing and extraction, advanced visualisation including integration with GIS, multilingual semantic analysis, advanced policy modelling and model repository, dynamic agent based simulation, cloud computing and IMS supported crowd sourcing. It will specifically target domains such as sustainable development, land use, urban planning, urban segregation and migration. It aims at reducing complexity whilst engaging all stakeholders in the whole policy design lifecycle.
FUPOL will lead to better policy decisions and more efficient implementation of government policies as well as better identification of consequences for citizens and businesses.
Making IT Personal – Joining the DOTs
The ‘Making IT Personal (MITP) Joining the Digital Outreach Trainer (DOTs)’ scheme brings together people who want to share their skills with those who are looking for help with technology. It is run by the local authorities of Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield with funding from the European Social Fund, and is supported by many of the colleges and other organisations in our region.
Digital Outreach Trainers are mostly unpaid volunteers who share their skills and knowledge of new technologies with others e.g. with friends, neighbours, or relatives. The overall aim of the project is to contribute to the development of digital skills for employment, citizenship and quality of life among the population of South Yorkshire.
e@SY Connects has just completed close-to-market action research with partners such as the Health Service, GPs, the community and the private sector, although as part of mainstreaming e@SY will ensure that this project is tied into e@SY's project "pipeline" such as Mobile Payment Project due Q3 2012.
